Alienware 17 R4 review: Worth its weight in performance

If there’s any gaming laptop as recognizable year-to-year as Razer’s Blade line, it’s probably Alienware’s. Following a redesign a few years back, the humbly named Alienware 17 has stayed pretty much the same ever since, at least on the outside.

And you know what that means: Time to hit the gym if you want to do anything with this laptop besides set it on a desk and forget about it.

He should be the fail guy at the beginning of infomercials. Tired of not finding your power port?

  • February 16, 2018 at 12:47 am

E bro u are twisting it like a toy come down!!

  • February 20, 2018 at 9:10 pm

It runs CAD wonderfully. High load needs big venting dude. You border on angry dude.

Stop being so bias with thinner laptop. Just cause you prefer thin laptop doesn't mean you get to diss thicker laptops with better ventilation. You're not a very good reviewer. You even got the placement of the thunderbolt wrong. How did you even manage to get a job here without even knowing your stuff?

Your disinterested attitude towards this review makes me want to tear my hair out followed by slapping you across the face. Mediocre switches? What in the heck are you looking for in a laptop?

  • March 7, 2018 at 4:48 am

dude thats a high end laptop by all levels, hope u know something about alien laptops. before making reviews.

  • March 11, 2018 at 1:15 pm

What the reviewer fails to understand is that this is a gaming laptop and would be most likely be taken to gaming events or LAN parties – it is a high-end gaming laptop, not a standard work laptop where connectivity would be addressed differently.

I would not want the power connector at the side whilst gaming, I would want it at the back out the way of other cables – Alienware know this, hence the positioning of the port.

Yet another poor product review on YT with little thought gone into it before posting.

Lol why are people hating on this guy's opinions? He's making good points. I had an Alienware 15 r3 for a year and I loved it, but i also agree with some of the cons this guy stated. Also he gave this a 4 out of 5. Keep hating people.

    It’s so obvious, he’s being so petty😂😂😂

  • March 27, 2018 at 6:49 am

Dude you just talking about the size of it and how big is it

  • March 28, 2018 at 9:34 pm

Calling out to anyone who is using this laptop,is the viewing angle as bad as he mentioned.if not how do you describe it?

  • March 30, 2018 at 12:47 am

It seems that you are reviewing a 17" gaming laptop in a 10" ultraportable netbook perspective? That 17" Alienware R4 has a lot more room to dissipate heat, and make less fan noise when compare to other "more compact", "less gigantic" 17" gaming laptops. You don't even know that? My God! TT The world is going to end. TT

Lol hearing only negativity. Oh it’s too big, the fans are too big, the fans are also too loud!! Well of course it’s big and loud. I have this laptop and I absolutely love it.

  • April 8, 2018 at 10:21 pm

This guy complain so much about the fan,i just bought a alienware17 r4 last week, and the fan ventilation at the back is good, tha ventilation for the fan is big enough to cool down the entire system, this is a reviewer who review a product without searching anything about it

  • May 1, 2018 at 1:54 pm

Oh man why did you buy Alienware 17 if you kind a hate it .you have taken almost 15min and you have said mostly negative

  • May 7, 2018 at 11:10 pm

Dude, your talking about this laptop like it's an ex-girlfriend. You could've just said "It's too shit, for what it is… thanks for watching".

  • May 12, 2018 at 4:40 am

It is really not heavy and it will not hurt your back if you carry it in your backpack. I walked to campus with this alienware and added a 13 inch macbook(2011) pro with both power supplies. No problems.

You're a fucking idiot 😀 U don't get the point it is Desktop replacement, it's not meant to be used on a fucking plane or train, school etc. I bet u didn't even use it. It is fucking good laptop, and by saying oh design is not good u should say that's in your opinion but you motherfucker said it like u are a fucking expert or some shit. no wonder this video got 500+ disslikes. U r just a razer cock sucker. Better review –

  • May 30, 2018 at 2:56 am

Gets a 17 inch laptop and says its large i don’t like it….bruh what did you expect go to processors and benchmarks idiot.

  • June 9, 2018 at 2:03 pm

They should make it an option when purchasing to have zone or per key lighting.

  • June 9, 2018 at 2:09 pm

At first I thought that the part sticking out in the back would be fine because you would have to tilt the screen a bit anyway, but when you add the charging cable…
