Microsoft’s Xbox One X presents an interesting challenge for PC builders. Sure, if you want raw power, nothing beats the PC. But putting together an Xbox One X equivalent for the same $500 price is tricky. In this video we go over all the parts (so far) and why we picked them.

Parts list (subject to change):

Not a PC or console fanboi. I've had both in the past. But today, with prices this insane, there's just no way I could afford a gaming PC. In fact I can't even afford a current-gen console. I ended up buying a second-hand Xbox 360 just to play modern games.

The whole thing, including the console, wireless controller, charger, HDD, all the cables and a selection of 20 popular games, cost me just £40. Try getting a comparable PC for that.

Of course, the Xbox 360 is at the end of the line, and there'll be no more new games, but right now I have access to a back catalogue of over a thousand triple-A games, nearly all of which I've never played before on any platform, because I didn't have hardware powerful enough. And I can pick up those games on eBay for pennies.

Sorry, but that's it for me and PC gaming. I'll come back in ten years and see if prices are more reasonable, but I suspect they won't be. In fact, at this rate, I suspect the PC platform will be stone cold dead and buried, with nothing left but some obscenely expensive fossilised remains to gawk at.

How does one configure a BIOS to successfully boot from an Xbox One HDD on a PC? Has Microsoft developed a special boot code to achieve it on the actual console or what?

I am constantly dissapointed when I see "techheads" asking why anyone would carry out a tech experiment. You do it to see if it can be done.

I owned 3 XBox360s. Not a single one had the red ring of death. The first one, I just sold for change. The second melted in a house fire. And the third is still sitting under my TV as a decoration. Just wanted to point out that there IS an XBox360 user that hasn't had the red ring of death.

That's not true. I still have my day 1 Xbox 360, and it still runs just fine.

How about you check everything out before you start filming. You guys look like amateurs when you put the fan on wrong, then pick a video card that doesn't fit in your case while filming. Next time, check everything out before the build so you look like you know what you are doing, even if you really don't. PRO TIP.

From what i've seen HDR is nice to have though may not always be a good fit on consoles because you would have to double the ram requirements to combat the the lag in the cpu-gpu since they seem to be going the route of 1 dye combos..

unless you're into buying expensive hdmi cable options within the market you may not get the best performance you of the port

My last 3 laptops have had the capacity to output 1080p and 4k though reality internet game play play will be whatever your internet speed is even with 100/40 internet connection doesn't guarantee you the best speed possible gameplay because you are likely be playign an upscaled image from a lower resolution because neither home network nor internet services are fast enough to do native 4k or above and hdr can be varied between makers..

I would hazrd a guess youare going to be looking at a min of 55" you higher as 4k is usable on lower screen sizes tends to really look crap because we're starting to talking in context of omni screen type size in resolution of 75mm or higher film stock at the comparison..

and hdr or whatever the vendor calls it may implement it differently ..

and when I look at sony I fear we could be faced with pseudo standards rather than actual standard of wide screen as a format..
I have owned ever sony and MS console to date and i have to state this no matter what shit they fill consoles with I think a pc of today will outlast anything console release for the next 20-30 years..

as for laps and their hard drives you can go as low as 3400 RPM, though 5400 rpm is common as is ssd though finding an ssd with a min of 4TB n the cheap isn't going to happen..

from a PC perspective I think you are pretty much looking a raid storage server with for the entire xbox catalog through pc catalog with mame/steam and other of the ilk serving as dl engine for pc games and if MS starts releasing console options where you can mount hard into a pc chassis same with sony, I pretty much give up on nintendo at this point because they do not compete in hardware stakes and game ports to their system tend to be scaled down versions what pc/xbox/sony provide I'd all but called the wii/wiiu/switch more or less a retrocade type scenario..

I suspect eventually until the is a market shift in either nintendo sammi /segasoft i pretty much think their console limelight has bit the dust as it were..

lets face we are really starting to get sick in the mascot support games from the 8 bit era that keeps getting ported into new generation consoles and the like of publishing houses stopping support of actual games to the nintendo platform

with exception of the cube i own all nintendo consoles and i finally brought my 1st sega console all be it a at games clone

So much venom in this debate. But mostly I see it coming from pc users. Why do you guys gotta be so toxic? Of coarse a pc can be built that beats the x but certainly not for the price. That's all they set out to answer. It's not even about which one is better just could it be done. I don't even know why someone would build a pc to match the x…just buy an x. If your building a pc it's to get the best possible graphics. Just so silly of a thing for people to get so upset about.

This was pathetic.. you add the 4K TV to the price of the Xbox One X but don’t add the monitor to the shit PC you built. Then you add a laptop to the X1X price just because the console can run Office, Excel and all that other stuff?

I don’t even build PC’s but know enough to realize how full of shit this entire video was. Also, HDR is far more prevalent in PS4 Pro and Xbox One X than PC. HDR is the real game changer and you’re not even factoring that into needing a 4K HDR monitor; good luck with that by the way.

And that dude was drunk off less than 4 PBR’s.. hahaha, I’ll never watch or look at this channel ever again. This was embarrassing.

Cheapest and the smallest we built to compare it to the xbox x was a joke about 400 more than expected.
