Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 looks set to include an iris scanner

Considering it’s been over a year since Samsung introduced the Galaxy Tab S3, it’s certainly no surprise to hear that the South Korean company is preparing to launch a successor to the popular tablet. According to a newly-leaked image, however, it may include some pretty significant upgrades.

Now, although the overall construction of the tablet is expected to remain largely the same, an increase in screen dimensions can be seen in the images. Specifically, the 9.7-inch 4:3 panel seen on Galaxy Tab S3 has been swapped out for a larger 10.5-inch offering that sports a 16:10 aspect ratio – that’s the same aspect ratio featured on the original Galaxy Tab S back in 2014. Now, in a bid to move away from the traditionally-big bezels, Samsung has made an effort to reduce both the top and bottom ones significantly, which means the physical home key and accompanying capacitive buttons have been removed. Instead, the tablet now adopts the on-screen variants that have been seen on Samsung’s recent smartphones. However, unlike the flagship smartphones, the home button will not be pressure sensitive.
In regards to other features, the source of the image claims that an iris scanner will be featured in addition to Samsung Dex support which will allow the tablet to power a PC-like experience via a compatible dock. Additionally, the Samsung Experience 9.5 overlay is seemingly on board alongside Android 8.1 Oreo underneath. Also, when it comes to the internal specifications, last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 will be replacing the Snapdragon 820 seen in the Tab S3, with this then coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
