Fortnite for Nintendo Switch stacks up two million players in less that 24 hours | Pocket Gamer.biz

Epic‘s hit battle royale game Fortnite was downloaded over two million times in its first 24 hours on the Nintendo Switch.

The Switch port of Fortnite launched on Tuesday, shortly after its announcement during the Nintendo Direct stream. Within a day of going online, over two million players had downloaded the game.

The Switch’s position between the portability of mobile and the horsepower of a home console places it in a prime position for the sort of quick-fire experience Fortnite players are looking for.

Switched on

“Fortnite’s launch went extremely well – we had more than two million downloads in less than 24 hours,” Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-aime told Polygon.

“I think that speaks to the power of the franchise, the engagement of our players and the resonance of being able to play it anytime, anywhere.”

These numbers were achieved in spite of Sony blocking cross-play between PS4 and Switch. The Nintendo Switch port still allows play across PC, Xbox and mobile platforms.
