As we pointed out, the update (which weighs in at 422MB) is now rolling out in Taiwan, but HTC’s Gordon says that over the next few weeks it will be sent out (possibly under a different software version number) to unlocked U12+ units in the U.S. and Europe. While the update won’t make the HTC U12+ a big seller, anything that improves the virtual buttons has to be worth looking forward to.
A couple of days ago, HTC announced that CryptoKitties are coming to the HTC U12+. These are virtual, digital cats that you can collect, breed and trade. While that is not going to help HTC U12+ users enjoy their phone more, a new update being pushed out by HTC just might. A tweet from the company’s head of global PR, Jeff Gordon, says that software version 1.21.709.3 is being disseminated right now to the unlocked U12+ in Taiwan.
Besides the June Android security patch, the update includes smooth auto zoom in video recording. The much maligned virtual buttons and the Edge Sense squeezable short cut feature will both receive enhancements. And those who have installed the update have reported noticeable improvements for both the buttons and Edge Sense.
