Samsung drops big hint it will unveil foldable phone in November

  • Samsung has hinted that it will show off its foldable phone in November at the Samsung Developer Conference.
  • The hint comes via a recent tweet that includes an unfolding graphic.
  • This fits in with previous rumors that suggested Samsung would unveil the phone in November.

Samsung has given the strongest hint yet that it could unveil a foldable phone at its developer conference in November. In an official tweet promoting the event (spotted by The Verge), an animation shows an icon unfolding similar to how we expect the company’s folding phone to.

Perhaps the most exciting thing is that the animation pauses in three distinct positions. It starts off flat, then moves to a 90-degree angle like a laptop, and then appears to widen further into a flat, tablet-like position. This suggests the phone will be usable when the screen is closed, partially open, and fully open.

Samsung stops short of confirming it will unveil a foldable device in November, but it’s a big hint and previous rumors have indicated it will unveil the phone at the conference.

We don’t, however, know what stage the product will be in.

Speculation from the past year has suggested that Samsung will release a pilot version of the foldable phone early next year. Should this be the case, it seems likely that the version Samsung could unveil in November will be pretty close to the final product.

On the other hand, there is always the chance that even if Samsung unveils a device it will be nothing more than a prototype.

Whatever happens, given the avalanche of rumors over the past year, as well as this hint from official sources, it seems like we won’t have to wait much longer to get a better look at Samsung’s foldable phone plans.
